The Lipscomb Academy Girl’s Basketball team just beat Harpeth 58-27. I love basketball. I love Lipscomb and always have. It’s my alma mater, but it’s so much more than that because it dates back in my family to the 1940’s. My dad played with former Vanderbilt legend Clyde Lee at David Lipscomb High School (Lipscomb Academy) back in the 60’s too. When dad was pastoring in Lebanon during my freshman year at Lebanon High School we went to see Coach Meyer and the Bisons many times in McQuiddy. To say that was an electric atmosphere is to put it lightly, but those memories are indelibly seared into my memory.
As I sat there in the Lipscomb Academy gym with my cheeseburger and nachos from Pappy’s Porch I smiled from ear to ear because the history of basketball in this city of Nashville is rich. Whether it’s Clyde Lee, Will Perdue, Drew Maddux, Coach Meyer, John Pierce or Ryan Roller doesn’t matter because you could always count on Chuck Ross to yell, “Beat em and beat em bad!”
Well, that’s exactly what the Lady Mustangs did tonight.
