Be Kind

How I treat others is important. I don’t always treat others fairly, and in fact I have been extremely unfair. As a Christian I’d call that sinning against another human being. Landon Saunders taught me that there is nothing more important than a human being. He continues to live that out on this earth, and I pray God give that wonderful man 100+ years upon it.

How I treat restaurant employees, service providers and retail clerks says a lot about who I am and what I value. If I have an entitled attitude that they are there to serve me then guess how I’m going to treat them? If I instead go into a business transaction looking for ways to serve then I think that’s a much better attitude to have then expecting someone to wait on me hand and foot.

As a business owner who scrubs toilets I’ve seen both sides of this coin. I’ve seen people treat me like the lowest rung on the totem pole, but I’ve also been in muti-million dollar homes where I felt like the guest of honor. I enjoy my work, so even though I might have to guard against the anger management problem I have I also know that those who choose not to show me respect are probably dealing with self-hatred. Grace and love in the kingdom is sometimes overlooking an offense. Ma taught me that, and she showed it to me as well.

How we treat people teaches those around us by example too. That seems so elementary, but many times when stress and pressure are in the moment we forget that we are always teaching and showing others by what we do and don’t do. We’re human too, so we aren’t always going to get on base much less hit a homerun. I’d imagine during the World Series that starts tonight that there will be some unfairness on both sides. I’d like to hope there won’t be, but that’s just wishful thinking.

If you’re a new reader from Twitter or LinkedIn welcome, and I’m really glad you’re here. I hope you’ll come back, and my “regulars” I thank you many fold for all the likes you give me. It keeps me coming back, and my love of writing increases with every like. It also helps that I don’t have some teacher or professor giving me a grade for these essays! My daughter works her tail off in school, and I’m so glad she does, but her mom and dad are done with formal education!

See you guys next time!
